DansGuardian is a wonderful application that is easy to use and works well with proxy servers such as squid to filter web contents. This is a free OpenSource tool, easy to setup.<\/p>\n
Installation:<\/strong><\/p>\n ====== ==<\/p>\n Create a folder to download the application:<\/p>\n ]# mkdir \/Downloads<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n ]# cd\/Downloads<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Get the latest stable copy of the software from “dansguardian<\/b>.org”<\/cite><\/p>\n ]#\u00a0wget http:\/\/dansguardian.org\/downloads\/2\/Stable\/dansguardian-2.10.1.1.tar.gz<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Extract the tar file:<\/p>\n ]#\u00a0tar -xvf dansguardian-2.10.1.1.tar.gz<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Go to the dansguardian folder<\/p>\n ]# cd dansguardian-2.10.1.1<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Run the configuration command. It will be good to do the default configurations<\/p>\n ]# useradd\u00a0dansguardian<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n ]# .\/configure –with-proxyuser=dansguardian –with-proxygroup=dansguardian<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n ]# make<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n ]# make install<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n You may see an error: “downloadmanagers\/fancy.cpp:507:72: error: \u2018snprintf\u2019 was not declared in this scope”. Do not panic. Just add the following line with # in the beginning sections of the file “src\/downloadmanagers\/fancy.cpp”<\/p>\n #include\u00a0<cstdio><\/p>\n Verify if dansguardian is running. Since it listens to port 8080 by default, check using this command:<\/p>\n ]# netstat -na | grep 8080<\/strong><\/em> IMPORTANT:<\/strong> By default dansguardin will try to connect to a proxy server such as Squid installed in local host listening to port 3128 to access the internet.<\/p>\n From a users desktop browser, try using this host as the proxy (with listening port TCP 8080) in the browser setting, and check if any simple website can be accessed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
